Abstract

Background: Various factors influence students’ academic achievement, one of which is their anxiety level. However, research on the relationship between anxiety levels and academic achievement among students in the Sports Science Program remains very limited. Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate how the anxiety levels of students in the Sports Science Program at Hafshawaty Zainul Hasan University correlate with their academic achievement. Methods: A quantitative method with a correlational design was used in this study. Using total sampling, the study sample consisted of 35 selected students. The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) was used to assess academic achievement. The Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) was used to measure anxiety levels. The Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Pearson product-moment correlation test, and descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data at a 5% significance level. Results: Students had an average GPA of 3.546 and an average DASS-21 score of 25.571. There was no significant correlation between students’ anxiety levels and their academic performance, according to the results of the correlation test, in which the r value was 0.172 and the p value was 0.324. Conclusion: The academic achievement of students in the Sports Science Program at Hafshawaty Zainul Hasan University is not significantly correlated with their anxiety levels. Implications: The results of this study indicate that psychological conditions are not the sole factor responsible for improving academic achievement; there are also additional components such as social support, motivation to learn, self-efficacy, and learning strategies. These findings can be used by universities to develop academic counseling and mental health services for students.
